What You need to Know About Child Predators

We came across a news story titled:

"Police renew effort to crack down on child predators after man arrested for child porn."

We normally post the articles for you to read and develop your own opinions. That is the safe way. We see so many people twist well intended thoughts and opinions of others into a nightmare of negativity until the message gets lost. We thought we would give it a try and see if there are a few of you that will look at what we mean to say and want to do. We're trying to help in an area that our hearts live in. We are trying to share our expertise with you from the perspective of having been on both sides. From having interviewed the victims, the families, the investigators and the predators themselves. We’ve learned a lot from our personal experience. No, Private Investigators are not required to have a psychology degree, but, as empaths, we know people’s hearts. We hurt when they hurt. We heal when they heal. They heal when a person or organization will fight for them. Will understand them. Listens to them. When they have a warrior on their side.

It's life-changing when any person commits to protecting children. Whether you are a police officer, an attorney, a doctor, a nurse, a social worker, teacher, a parent or any other person that works or lives with children-you fall into this category.

YOU and I are the protectors of the children in our lives. Our efforts to protect them have to remain on the forefront.

The.
Time.

So, when I read the headline ("Police renew effort to crack down on child predators after man arrested for child porn." ) my question was:

"Why does it state the efforts of the department in the article have been "renewed"?"
It seemed to suggest there was a lack of effort by the department in the first place! That can’t be right.

As I read further, I saw that the spokesperson for the Department was quoted as saying , in part, that the Department “…….is expanding its efforts to crack down on these horrific crimes.”

I am a perfectionist. I am very literal. I am particular with the use of words. I hate to make mistakes, so I do my homework.

The definition of renewal is “an instance of resuming an activity or state after an interruption.”
The definition of expansion is “the action of becoming larger or more extensive.”

The headline leaves room for a person to conclude there is a renewal because the department quit caring, quit trying or just quit working the cases. I do not believe that is true and protecting our children is too important to not get it right.

Let Me Explain My Concern

So, let me qualify here -I am not trying to call out the author of the article. I am confident the choice of words was not purposeful. I do not know why the word was changed from the quote to the headline. Perhaps some would say, “who cares what word they used? The point is, they arrested some predators.“ I understand that assessment. I do. But as a Warrior-it’s personal. If that article were about me or my department, I would feel the use of that one word creates an opinion that I quit trying and that the people who need me think I quit too. I can’t help but wonder if those Warriors at that department felt the same way. It’s like there is an opening to suggest it was a choice to not make more predator arrests. It’s not. Making those arrests is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. And, short of being thrown out of a Warrior position, becoming physically or mentally incapable of coping with the stress, or death, no Warrior just quits. We may be forced to stop and lick our wounds for a moment, but we never quit. We find a way to come back, try again and make a difference.

Despite any definition difference in the headline and what was quoted in the article, and whether or not my perception of the use of the word “renewal” I am making my way to the point. I do hope we can all agree that if any of us “knew” who the child predators are-they certainly wouldn't be near any of our children!

A lot of things keep us from knowing all we can and all we should when it comes to protecting children from child predators. I've seen budget issues, political issues, personnel issues, experience issues, legal issues, lack of training issues, lack of mental wellness care, and a whole lot of red-tape issues. The common denominator that I see and want to address is this; A lack of knowledge on a topic is not a lack of intelligence. It is a lack of education.

How Much Knowledge Do you Need to Protect Children?

How much knowledge do you need? Let’s start by examining how much knowledge you have. Ask yourself these questions:

Do I know everything I need to know about protecting children ?
Do I know the red flags associated with child predator behavior?
Do I know the red flags a victim of a child predator exhibits?
Am I seeing what I think might be a red flag and then bleaching it?

If You Answered “NO” or “I DON'T KNOW”

If you answered “no” or “I don’t know” to any of these questions, you need an education on the topic! I have 24 years of law enforcement experience and specialized knowledge that I want to share with you! Don't wait until something bad happens to seek the knowledge! You need it now! Educate to Prevent!
